Define the proposition to verify
A research question may concern a right, organisational duty, procedure, or transfer arrangement. Write the precise proposition and the facts on which the question depends.
A broad request for Saudi PDPL compliance can produce a list that mixes different instruments. A narrower question makes it easier to verify the legal basis of the answer.
Build the instrument map
List the law, relevant regulations, and guidance separately, using SDAIA's official resources as a starting point. Record the title, language, source, and version information.
Do not cite a guidance document as though every recommendation in it were statutory wording. Preserve the distinction in both the research file and final explanation.
Test a procedural claim
Suppose an AI answer attributes a procedural requirement to the law itself. Open the cited provision and check whether the detail actually appears in an implementing instrument or guidance.
If the citation does not support the proposition, correct the source and reassess the statement. A plausible article number is not sufficient verification.
Check scope and application
Identify the relevant entity, processing activity, data, and issue. Ask the responsible Saudi adviser to assess how the framework applies to those facts.
Keep source translation qualifications visible. Where terminology affects the conclusion, verify the Arabic text and the status of any English version used.
Deliver a source-supported note
Give the reader the proposition, instrument, provision, passage, and application assumptions. Identify unresolved interpretation or evidence questions.
Judicio's Saudi research uses curated legal web search rather than a dedicated Saudi database connector. Verify completeness and current status through appropriate official and professional resources.
Worked example and decision record
Illustrative source-verification exercise: a draft note calls a privacy-notice recommendation “Article 12 of the PDPL.” The supporting link opens a guidance PDF rather than the law. Even if the recommended practice is sensible, the citation and claimed legal status require correction.
| Layer | Record in the source map | Question to resolve |
|---|---|---|
| Law | Official title, version and provision | Does the legal proposition appear here? |
| Regulation | Instrument, enabling context and provision | Is the operational detail in this instrument? |
| Guidance | Issuer, publication and section | Is this explanation or recommendation rather than statutory wording? |
| Application | Entity, activity and relevant facts | Does the identified requirement apply to this use? |
Correct the attribution before reusing the sentence in a procurement questionnaire or client note. If the supporting material has not been obtained, mark the proposition unverified. Do not create an article number from a secondary summary or treat an English working translation as a substitute for checking a material Arabic term.
Run a reviewable workflow
Start with SDAIA’s official regulations and policies resources and identify each instrument separately. For example, the privacy-policy guideline is a source to classify and inspect; its title should remain attached to any explanation taken from it.
In Legal Research, ask a narrow question with the entity, activity and relevant date. Request the instrument and provision behind each material proposition. Judicio’s Saudi workflow uses curated web research, so confirm that the actual source was retrieved and readable. A search snippet, unavailable PDF or secondary quotation does not complete the source check.
For each answer, open the official text and record the passage, language, date and source location. Compare the proposed English explanation to the Arabic wording when interpretation turns on terminology. Escalate an unresolved point to the responsible Saudi adviser with the exact passages and facts, rather than a broad question about compliance.
Keep an access log when official resources cannot be reached. Record the attempted URL and what remains unverified; use another authorised official publication or obtain the text through the matter team. When a later version is obtained, identify every conclusion that depended on the earlier source. A silent link replacement can conceal a material change in the advice.
Checklist and acceptance criteria
Use this checklist at handover. Record the reviewer, date, source version and unresolved items beside each answer; a tick without evidence does not close the issue.
- Separate the law, regulations and guidance in the source map.
- Attach each proposition to the correct instrument and passage.
- Record Arabic terminology and the status of working translations.
- Assess application to the actual entity and processing.
- Keep inaccessible or unsupported propositions explicitly open.
Download the editable separate saudi pdpl law, regulations, and guidance in research checklist (Markdown). It includes blank fields for your matter record and can be opened in a text editor or copied into your team’s document system.
The source map is ready for handover when a colleague can find the supporting passage and distinguish the legal rule, official explanation and your proposed control. A recommendation may still be useful without being a statutory requirement, provided its status is clear.
Sources and next steps
This is an editorial workflow guide for legal professionals. The suggested checks are our practical recommendations, not a statement that a regulator requires a particular software workflow.
